Haomei Aluminum supplies retort-grade aluminum foil material for peel-off end applications, with 8011-O as the typical foil grade. The foil core is generally used at 0.06–0.09 mm thickness and can be supplied for coating, lamination, printing and heat-sealing processes according to the required end structure.
Haomei Aluminum supplies aluminum foil raw material for converters producing retortable peel-off end membranes. The foil forms the metal barrier layer in a structure that is subsequently coated or laminated, converted into lids, and sealed to a compatible can-end ring.

What Is Retortable POE Aluminum Foil?
Peel-off ends, commonly shortened to POE, use a flexible membrane together with a rigid can-end ring. For retort food packaging, the membrane material must work with the sealing system and remain suitable through the customer's thermal sterilization process.
Haomei supplies the aluminum foil substrate used in this structure. Depending on the project, the foil may be converted into a coated or laminated material with a protective outer lacquer and a retort-compatible heat-sealing layer. The final layer combination should be selected together with the can material, sealant, filling product and retort conditions.

Retortable Aluminum Foil for Peel-Off Ends: Layer Structure
Retortable peel-off end membranes typically combine a protective outer lacquer, an aluminum foil barrier layer, and a retort-compatible heat-sealing layer. Final layer specifications depend on the required end structure and processing conditions.
-
Protective Outer Lacquer
Typically clear or colored, with a coating weight of approximately 1–6 g/m² when specified, depending on the coating system.
-
8011-O Aluminum Foil Core
Typical thickness: 0.06–0.09 mm. The aluminum foil provides the metal barrier layer in the peel-off end membrane structure.
-
Retort-Compatible Heat-Sealing Layer
PP-based or other project-specified sealant materials selected to match the can-end ring, sealing conditions, and retort processing requirements.
Why 8011-O Is Used for Peel-off End Foil
Good Formability
The soft O temper provides the ductility required for foil converting, coating, laminating and forming operations associated with membrane materials.
Consistent Foil Base
A stable foil gauge and surface condition help downstream converters maintain more consistent coating, laminating and web-processing conditions.
Effective Barrier Layer
The aluminum foil core provides a strong barrier against light and helps support the overall barrier performance of the finished membrane structure.
Applications of Retortable Peel-off End Foil
Ready-to-eat Foods
Used as membrane material for canned meals and other shelf-stable foods that undergo thermal sterilization.
Meat & Fish
Suitable as a foil substrate for peel-off end constructions used with retortable canned meat, fish and poultry products.
Soups, Sauces & Vegetables
Can be incorporated into sealing structures for canned soups, sauces, curries and vegetable products subject to retort processing.
The completed membrane may be designed for aluminum or steel ring systems used with two-piece or three-piece cans. Common ring diameters can include 52, 65, 73 and 99 mm, depending on the packaging system. These are finished-package dimensions, not raw foil roll widths.

Haomei Quality Control for POE Aluminum Foil Material
Thickness Control
Foil gauge is controlled against the agreed specification to support stable downstream coating, laminating and slitting operations.
Surface Condition
The foil surface is checked for visible defects and cleanliness according to the agreed supply condition and subsequent coating requirements.
Roll Consistency
Width, winding condition, core dimensions and roll identification are considered when preparing material for industrial converting.
Documentation
Material certificates and inspection documentation can be arranged according to the agreed order and quality requirements.
Packaging
Export packing is selected to protect foil rolls from moisture, deformation and handling damage during storage and transportation.
Specification Review
Haomei reviews alloy, temper, thickness, width and reel requirements before production rather than using one fixed specification for every POE project.

Send Your RequirementHow to Specify Aluminum Foil for Retortable Peel-Off Ends
Surface Quality for Lacquering and Lamination
For retortable peel-off ends (POE), aluminum foil may undergo lacquer coating, printing, adhesive application or lamination before lid conversion. Residual rolling oil, surface contamination and uneven surface conditions can affect coating wetting and adhesion.
Foil Thickness and Temper
Foil gauge and temper influence material handling, forming and subsequent conversion. For POE applications, 8011-O aluminum foil with a core thickness of approximately 0.06–0.09 mm can serve as a starting specification, subject to the lid design and process requirements.
Slitting, Flatness and Coil Winding
Consistent web handling depends on more than nominal foil width. Poor flatness, damaged slit edges, telescoping coils or uneven winding can cause difficulties during coating, lamination and downstream lid conversion.
Pinhole Control and Foil Integrity
Pinholes and other foil defects should be assessed using an agreed inspection method and acceptance criteria appropriate to the foil thickness and intended application. Inspection requirements should be established before production rather than left to a general visual-quality description.
FAQ – Retortable Aluminum Foil for Peel-Off Ends (POE)
What aluminum alloy is commonly used for retortable peel-off ends?
8011 in the O temper is a typical starting material for the aluminum foil substrate. The final alloy selection should be confirmed according to the converting process and technical specification.
What thickness is used for retortable POE aluminum foil?
A common thickness range is 0.06–0.09 mm (60–90 μm). The required thickness depends on the membrane construction, converting process and performance requirements.
Can the foil be supplied with a heat-sealing layer?
Coating or lamination requirements can be reviewed according to the project. The sealant should be selected for compatibility with the intended can material, sealing conditions and retort cycle.
Can Haomei supply different reel widths?
Yes. Reel width, core ID, roll OD and roll weight can be specified according to the customer's slitting, printing, coating or converting equipment.
Which can sizes can use peel-off end foil?
Common reference diameters include 52 mm, 65 mm, 73 mm and 99 mm. Actual foil web dimensions should be determined from the complete end design rather than from can diameter alone.
