8011 Aluminum Closure Stock
8011 is worth considering for closures that need a balance of formability, strength and consistent surface quality. The final temper and gauge should match the forming process, whether the material is stamped, drawn or finished with a coating.
3105 Aluminum Closure Stock
3105 is an aluminum-manganese alloy used for selected bottle caps and screw closures. It offers a useful balance of strength, formability and corrosion resistance, particularly where the formed cap needs to retain its shape.
3104 Aluminum Alloy
3104 is commonly associated with drawn and formed packaging components that require strength and controlled wall deformation. Consider it when the closure design and forming route call for these properties, and confirm suitability against the actual cap specification.
3004 Aluminum Alloy
3004 provides higher strength than commercially pure aluminum and is used in formed packaging and other drawn components. Its suitability for closure stock depends on the required forming depth, final geometry and temper.
1060 Aluminum Alloy
With its high aluminum content and good ductility, 1060 can be considered for selected stamped caps and closures where formability is important. The required temper and thickness should be checked against the cap's strength and dimensional requirements.
5052 / 5182 Aluminum Alloys
These magnesium-bearing alloys are options for applications where greater strength is needed. They should be assessed against the closure design, forming method and performance requirements rather than treated as direct substitutes for standard cap-stock alloys.
1070 / 1080 / 5005 / 5657 Aluminum Alloys
These alloys may be considered for specialized closure components where purity, surface appearance, finishing response or application-specific properties matter. Confirm the exact alloy, temper and processing requirements before specifying them for production.

Aluminum Closure Sheets and Coils
Choosing between sheets and coils starts with how your production line handles the material. Check the feeding method and working dimensions of your coating, printing and cap-forming equipment before specifying the supply format.
Sheets for Sheet-Fed Processing
For sheet-fed coating, printing or blanking, aluminum closure sheets provide material in cut lengths. Specify the sheet dimensions around your equipment and blank layout, with agreed tolerances for flatness and squareness.
Surface condition also matters, particularly when the sheets will be coated or printed before forming.
Coils for Continuous Feeding
For lines equipped with an uncoiler and continuous feed system, aluminum closure coils allow material to feed into the line without loading individual sheets. Match the coil width to the tooling layout and the line's working-width limits.
Confirm the inner diameter, maximum outer diameter and coil weight against your uncoiling and handling equipment.
Which format fits your line? Send your equipment's material requirements, including the alloy, temper, thickness and accepted sheet or coil dimensions. If coating or printing takes place on a separate line, include those requirements too—the stock needs to suit each stage of production.
Aluminum Materials for Bottle Caps, Vial Seals and Packaging Closures
The right aluminum closure stock depends on how the part is formed, decorated and used. A long wine cap needs different forming properties from a shallow vial seal, while a yogurt lid must work with the cup material and heat-sealing process.
Aluminum for ROPP and Pilfer-Proof Caps
8011 aluminum closure sheet is widely used for roll-on pilfer-proof (ROPP) caps for spirits, beverages and other bottled products. Material selection should account for drawing depth, skirt geometry, thread rolling and the design of the tamper-evident band.
- Typical alloy: 8011
- Temper options: H14, H16, H44 and H46
- Surface options: mill finish, DOS-oiled, clear-lacquered or color-coated
See our aluminum for ROPP caps page for application-specific selection guidance.
Aluminum for Wine Screw Caps
Long-skirt wine closures need consistent sheet thickness and controlled forming behavior to keep the skirt even and the printed design aligned. 8011 is a common starting point, but the final specification should follow the cap dimensions, bottle finish and closure supplier's requirements.
Check surface quality, lacquer adhesion and resistance to scuffing during forming and handling. Opening torque and tamper-band performance also depend on cap geometry and application settings, not just the aluminum alloy.
When specifying aluminum for wine screw caps, include the cap height, diameter, liner system and decoration process.
Aluminum for Pharmaceutical Vial Seals
1060 and 3003 aluminum are options for pharmaceutical vial seals, depending on the seal design and forming requirements. Consistent thickness, clean surfaces and controlled mechanical properties help support stamping, crimping and assembly.
Review our aluminum for pharmaceutical vial seals with your seal drawing, surface requirements and documentation needs before confirming the material.
Aluminum for EOE and Can Ends
Easy-open ends require a balance of strength, formability and controlled opening performance. 5182 is widely used for beverage can ends and tabs. Other alloys, including 5052 and 8011, may be considered for specific end designs, but are not interchangeable with pressure-rated beverage-end stock.
Select the alloy, temper and gauge around the end diameter, pressure requirement, score design and processing conditions.
Aluminum for Omnia and Specialty Jar Lids
8011 aluminum can be considered for shallow-drawn Omnia-style lids and certain specialty jar closures. The material needs to form cleanly while maintaining a suitable surface for lacquer and printing.
For hot-filled, pasteurized or retorted products, verify the inner coating and sealing compound under the intended time-temperature cycle and with the actual contents.
8011 Aluminum Foil for Yogurt Lids
8011 aluminum foil is used in yogurt and dairy lidding structures. It can be supplied for printing, embossing and heat-seal coating, depending on the lid construction and filling-line requirements.
Specify foil thickness, pinhole limits, peel behavior and the cup substrate, such as PP, PS or PET. The heat-seal coating must match that substrate and seal reliably within the filling line's temperature, pressure and dwell-time range.
Aluminum for Cosmetic Caps and Decorative Shells
Perfume caps, lipstick shells and other cosmetic components often use 1070, 1080, 5005 or 5657 aluminum, depending on the part geometry and intended finish. Deep drawing, polishing and anodizing place different demands on the stock, so these alloys should not be treated as equivalent.
High-purity 1070 and 1080 may suit components requiring substantial forming and a bright finish. 5005 and 5657 are also used for decorative anodized applications.
Surface Finishes and Coating Options for Aluminum Bottle Cap Stock
The surface finish of aluminum bottle cap stock depends on the forming process and the required appearance or coating system. Haomei can supply plain, lubricated and coated material to meet different cap production requirements.
- Plain Mill Finish: Aluminum with a standard mill-finished surface for cap forming and subsequent surface treatment.
- DOS Oil Lubricated Finish: A thin dioctyl sebacate (DOS) lubricant layer to support forming and reduce friction during production.
- Color-Coated Aluminum: Pre-coated stock in specified colors for bottle caps requiring a consistent decorative finish.
- Both-Sides Clear Lacquer: Transparent lacquer applied to both sides to provide the specified surface protection and finishing characteristics.
Aluminum Closure Stock Quality Control
Earing Control
Uneven rim height after forming can increase trimming waste and affect closure dimensions. Earing is influenced by the alloy, temper, rolling texture and forming conditions. Haomei can review the specified forming requirements and agreed test criteria when selecting aluminum stock for bottle caps and other closures.
Thickness Tolerance
Variations in aluminum thickness can affect blanking, forming pressure and the dimensions of the finished closure. Haomei supplies closure stock to agreed thickness tolerances, with inspection based on the ordered gauge and applicable measurement requirements.
Flatness and Surface Finish
Coil shape, sheet flatness, edge condition and surface defects can influence material feeding, printing and lacquer application. Surface inspection and flatness requirements are specified according to the intended process, with options such as mill finish, DOS oil lubrication and lacquered or color-coated surfaces available where applicable.
