What Is PE Coated Aluminum Coil?
PE coated aluminum coil is aluminum coil finished with a polyester coating system after surface cleaning and chemical pretreatment. It is also known as polyester painted aluminum coil or PE prepainted aluminum coil.
The PE coating gives the aluminum surface a stable decorative color, selected gloss level and added protection during fabrication, transportation and normal service. Compared with untreated aluminum, coated coil can be supplied in a wider range of visual finishes, including solid colors, metallic effects, matte finishes, high-gloss surfaces and selected decorative printing effects.
PE polyester coating is not a universal solution for every outdoor project. For buildings exposed to coastal salt, high humidity, heavy industrial pollution or strong ultraviolet radiation, the coating system should be evaluated before the final material is selected.

- The product will not be exposed to severe salt spray, high UV or industrial chemicals.
Choose HDP or PVDF When
- The installation location is near the sea or exposed to salt-laden air.
- The project is located in a high-UV climate with long-term direct sunlight.
- The building is in a heavily polluted industrial or chemical environment.
- The project requires long-term exterior color-retention performance.
- The material will be used for a high-value curtain wall or landmark facade.
- The client specification requires a defined exterior coating system.

Metallic Effects
Metallic and pearlescent surfaces may be selected for decorative panels, household appliances, signboards and commercial display applications.
Wood Grain
Selected wood grain finishes may be supplied based on actual coating process, order volume, approved sample and production capability.
Common Aluminum Alloys for PE Coated Coil
| Alloy | Key Characteristics | Typical PE Coated Applications |
| 1050 | High aluminum content, good ductility, good corrosion resistance and lower strength. | Signage, decorative panels, interior products and light-duty applications. |
| 1060 | Good formability, smooth surface and suitable processing performance. | Decoration, appliance components, signage and general-use products. |
| 1100 | Good workability, corrosion resistance and weldability. | Appliance panels, ACP, interior decoration and general decorative products. |
| 3003 | Higher strength than 1xxx aluminum with good corrosion resistance and formability. | Building panels, general roofing, decorative panels and fabricated parts. |
| 3105 | Good formability and corrosion resistance for building panels and roll-formed products. | Roofing accessories, wall cladding, gutters, siding and slit strip products. |
For projects that need easy fabrication and a clean, consistent finish, see 1100 Color Coated Aluminum Sheet.
Where Is PE Coated Aluminum Coil Used?
PE coated coil is generally used where color, clean appearance, light weight and fabrication performance are required in indoor or relatively mild environments.
Aluminum Composite Panels
Used for interior ACP, advertising ACP and decorative panel production where coating appearance, flatness, color consistency and bonding compatibility matter.
Appliance Panels
Suitable for selected refrigerator, air-conditioner, washing-machine, kitchen appliance and household equipment surface components.
Signage & Advertising
Used for signboards, display panels, branded decorative surfaces, lightbox structures and fabricated advertising products.
Ceilings & Interior Panels
Used for suspended ceilings, wall panels, partitions, decorative trims and interior metal finishing systems.
General Construction
Used for selected building accessories, trim, light wall panels and general decorative components in suitable service environments.
Slit Strip & Fabrication
Coil can be slit into narrow strips for profiles, shutters, trims, door components and selected industrial fabrication applications.
PE Coated Aluminum vs HDP and PVDF Coated Aluminum
PE, HDP and PVDF coating systems have different application positions. Selection should be based on climate, exposure level, required appearance, project budget and expected exterior performance.
| Comparison Item | PE Polyester | HDP High-Durability Polyester | PVDF Fluorocarbon |
| Typical Positioning | Cost-effective decorative and general-use coating | Enhanced weatherability for many exterior projects | High-performance coating for demanding exterior applications |
| Common Applications | ACP, appliance panels, signage, interior panels and mild environments | Exterior cladding, roofing and general outdoor construction | Curtain walls, coastal buildings, high-UV areas and demanding facades |
| Weatherability | Standard | Enhanced | High |
| Decorative Options | Broad color and gloss options | Broad color options for outdoor use | Architectural and project-specific finish options |
| Relative Cost | Lower | Medium | Higher |
| Recommended Evaluation | Indoor or mild outdoor conditions | General outdoor exposure conditions | High-exposure, coastal, high-UV or high-value exterior projects |
When HDP May Be a Better Option
If the project is outdoors and requires stronger weatherability than standard PE, but the project does not require a PVDF system, HDP coated coil may be considered after reviewing the service environment and project specification.
When PVDF Should Be Evaluated
For curtain walls, coastal areas, high-UV regions, long-term facades and demanding architectural applications, buyers should evaluate PVDF coating rather than choosing PE solely based on initial material cost.

FAQ – PE Coated Aluminum Coil
Is PE coated aluminum suitable for outdoor roofing?
PE coated aluminum can be used for general outdoor applications in mild environments when the alloy, coating thickness, roof design and local climate are suitable. For coastal, high-UV, high-humidity or heavily polluted locations, HDP or PVDF coating systems should be evaluated instead.
Can PE coated aluminum coil be used for ACP?
Yes. PE coated aluminum coil is widely used for interior ACP, decorative ACP, advertising boards and general panel production. For exterior ACP projects, the coating type should be selected according to environmental exposure, building location and project requirements.
What is the difference between PE and PVDF coated aluminum?
PE is a polyester coating commonly selected for decorative, indoor and mild-environment applications because of its cost efficiency, color options and fabrication performance. PVDF is a fluorocarbon coating generally selected for demanding outdoor projects requiring stronger weatherability and color-retention performance.
Can Haomei Aluminum provide custom RAL colors?
Haomei Aluminum can provide standard RAL colors, selected custom colors and sample-based color matching subject to the coating system, minimum order quantity and production confirmation. For critical projects, the final color should be confirmed with physical samples before bulk production.
Which aluminum alloy is commonly used for PE coated coil?
Common alloys include 1050, 1060, 1100, 3003 and 3105. 1050 and 1100 are often selected for decorative and formability-focused applications, while 3003 and 3105 are commonly used when improved strength is needed for building panels, roofing accessories or roll-formed products.
Can PE coated aluminum coil be slit into narrow strips?
Yes. PE coated aluminum coil can be processed into slit strips when the final width, thickness, coil ID, coil weight, edge requirement and downstream equipment requirements are confirmed.
What information is needed for a PE coated aluminum coil quotation?
Please provide the alloy, temper, thickness, width, coil ID, front and back coating requirements, color code, gloss level, protective film, quantity, intended application, destination country and expected delivery date. If the coil will be bent, stamped, slit or roll formed, please also provide the processing method.
