3105 Aluminum Plate Sheet
3105 aluminum sheet belongs to the 3000 series aluminum-manganese alloys. It is an optimized grade developed on the basis of 3003 aluminum sheet, featuring excellent corrosion resistance and deep-drawing performance.
3105 aluminum alloy is stronger than 1100 and 3003 alloys. It cannot be hardened by heat treatment and has good corrosion resistance, formability and weldability, good plasticity and processing performance, and good gas welding and arc welding performance.
- 3105 aluminum belongs to the 3000 series aluminum alloy: the main alloying additive is manganese, which improves the strength of the alloy.
- 0.3% copper is added to 3105 aluminum alloy, so it has good conductivity and the conductivity can reach 41%.
3105 aluminum sheet is often referred to as “rust-proof aluminum.” It contains approximately 98% aluminum, with small additions of manganese (Mn) and magnesium (Mg) to improve strength.
It has excellent atmospheric and chemical corrosion resistance, and its ease of cold forming and welding (gas, arc, and brazing) makes it widely used in building panels, residential sidings, roofing, signage fabrication, and other general sheet metal applications that require painting.
The manganese-magnesium alloy system of 3105 achieves a balance between strength and formability, which cannot be matched by the 1000 series alloys, while still maintaining the non-heat-treatable property.

Common Tempers of 3105 Aluminum (Temper)
3105-O Temper (Fully Annealed Condition)
This is the softest condition of the 3105 alloy, achieved through full annealing to eliminate work-hardening stress.
Characteristics: Extremely high ductility and plasticity. It has the lowest tensile strength but the highest elongation.
- Formability: This is the best condition for forming. It is highly suitable for complex deep drawing, stretching, bending, and spinning processes, with a very low risk of cracking.
- Typical applications: Complex stamped parts requiring extremely high deformation, deep-drawn containers, radiator fins, and certain decorative components with low strength requirements but complex shapes.
3105-H14 / H24 (Half-Hard Condition)
This is the most widely used balanced condition. H14 is achieved by strain hardening to a medium degree; H24 is strain-hardened and then partially annealed (stabilization treatment), resulting in more stable properties.
Characteristics: At a “half-hard” level, it achieves an excellent balance between tensile strength and elongation.
- Processing performance: Provides moderate strength while retaining sufficient ductility. It allows for bending and forming to a certain extent while ensuring the finished product has adequate structural strength.
- Typical applications: Building wall cladding, aluminum ceilings, louvers, rain caps, pre-painted aluminum substrates, and general sheet metal parts.
3105-H18 (Full-Hard Condition)
This condition is achieved through intensive cold work hardening.
Characteristics: The highest strength and hardness, but with a significant loss of ductility. Elongation is relatively low (typically only a fraction of that in the O temper).
- Processing performance: Poor formability. When attempting small-radius 90° bending, the material surface is very prone to cracking or fracture.
- Typical applications: Mainly used where high rigidity and strength are required and little to no subsequent bending is needed. Examples include bottle cap stock (tamper-proof caps), nameplates, high-hardness washers, and certain flat support panels.
| Temper | Strength | Ductility | Forming Recommendations |
| 3105 O | Lowest | Highest | Excellent, suitable for complex deep drawing |
| 3105 H14 / H24 | Medium | Medium | Good, suitable for standard bending and stamping |
| 3105 H18 | Highest | Lowest | Poor, only suitable for flat or minimal processing |
3105 Aluminum Sheet Plate Common Surface Finishes
- 3105 Mill Finish Aluminum Sheet Plate: The “as-rolled” condition from the mill, with a natural, semi-reflective silver appearance. While functional, it may show minor manufacturing marks, which is why 3105 is often further processed.
- 3105 Pre-Painted / Color Coated Aluminum Sheet Coil: This is the most common finish for 3105. It is typically roller-coated with polyester or PVDF (fluorocarbon) paints. It is highly valued for its excellent paint adhesion—the coating resists peeling or blistering even when the metal is bent or formed.
- 3105 Brushed Finish Aluminum Sheet Coil: The surface is mechanically processed with abrasive belts to create a unidirectional, satin-like texture. This finish is popular for decorative interior panels and consumer electronics.
- 3105 Embossed (Stucco) Aluminum Sheet Coil: A mechanical process imprints a textured pattern (such as pebble or diamond patterns) onto the surface. This increases surface area, hides scratches, and reduces glare.
- 3105 Anodized Aluminum Sheet Coil: Although less common than painting for this alloy, 3105 can be anodized to form a hard, protective oxide layer that can be clear or dyed in various colors.
Typical Applications by Surface Type
- Residential / Industrial Siding: Usually pre-painted (white, gray, or custom colors) for weather protection.
- Rain Goods (Gutters / Downspouts): High-gloss or matte painted finishes to match building aesthetics.
- Signage: Clean, flat surfaces that easily accept vinyl graphics or direct printing.
- Mobile Homes & Vehicles: Large sheets with consistent color-coated finishes for durability against road debris and sun exposure.
- Bottle Caps & Closures: Specifically processed for deep drawing with food-grade coatings.
3105 Aluminum Plate Standards
- ASTM B209
- EN573
- EN485
- UNS A93015
These standards ensure global consistency in material quality and performance.
